One of the unusual aspects of influenza outbreaks is their seasonality; in temperate climates winter is flu season. The connection between the amount of sunlight and the disease was obvious enough, but the reason for this connection has only recently been understood. Vitamin D is essential to innate immunity, and most of our vitamin D is made by exposure to UV-B radiation from the sun; there simply are no significant dietary sources of vitamin D. Unless we supplement in the winter, our innate immunity will be compromised.
It is now believed that much of the population carries various strains of the influenza virus year-round. During the summer months vitamin D is plentiful and innate immunity can keep the virus in check. As winter approaches, vitamin D stores drop and the virus gains the upper hand.

I have been tanning at this location since day one. The owners rock, the staff they hire are totally friendly and the place is always clean. Certain times of the day are busy, but well worth the wait. I bought the "unlimited" package and it is so worth the money and the savings!! I recommend Maui Beach to everyone who asks' me where to get a "natural looking" tan like mine. Check em out if you haven't already, and tell em I sent ya!!

Finally a clean tanning salon! I do great with their Super Membership. You can't complain about the prices....this company is fair. I see some really happy customers when I'm there. No doubt a top choice!
Maui Beach Tanning Salon Rocks!!! In today's times, their prices can't be beat. Very professional and helpful staff. I bought a 6 month membership and have enjoyed my experience every time. I show a wonderful tan, and I don't pay those darn maintenance fees, you see at other salons. I don't tan all year long, however when it's time to tan again it will be with Maui Beach Tanning Salon. Thanks for a nice place to go.

HARVARD STUDY SUGGESTS TANNING PROTECTS AGAINST MELANOMA The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the principal teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School, recently reported ground breaking research which indicates that tanning may indeed protect against melanoma skin cancer. Lead researchers have been studying a gene called p53, also known as the "master watchman of the genome". This gene has long been known to act as a tumor suppressor that protects DNA from cancer-causing damage. Specifically, p53 regulates cell lifespan and growth, which ensures that cells do not mutate or multiply uncontrollably as occurs in cancerous cells.Researchers have found that p53 also plays a significant role in the tanning process by initiating a chain of events that culminates in the production of melanin, or dark pigmentation. This tan then in turn protects skin from sun damage and, according to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, "can reduce one's risk of melanoma. "In fact, the "number one risk factor for melanoma is an inability to tan," notes David E. Fisher MD, PhD, director of the
